Novak Djokovic has moved into the semifinals of the 2009 U.S. Open after knocking off Spain’s Fernando Verdasco in four sets on Wednesday 7-6 (7-2), 1-6, 7-5, 6-2.
Djokovic controlled much of the match with his serve as he hammered out ten aces and won points on 71 percent of his first serves put in play. The Serb also limited his mistakes, something Verdasco struggled with as the Spaniard committed 58 unforced errors in the match.
Djokovic has won one Grand Slam singles title, the 2008 Australian Open and he reached the finals at the 2007 U.S. Open but fell to Roger Federer.
