AP Top 25 Men’s College Basketball Scores from Jan. 17

Badgers Avoid Upset, Tar Heels Bounce Back, and Crimson Tide get Crushed.

Michael Flowers scored 15 points and Alando Tucker added 14 points as the #2 Wisconsin Badgers (18-1) snuck by the Purdue Boilermakers (13-6) 69-64. The win was the Badgers 14th straight win.

The #4 North Carolina Tar Heels (16-2) bounced back from their loss to Virginia Tech with a big win over the #16 Clemson Tigers (17-2) 77-55. Brandan Wright scored 17 points while Tyler Hansbrough added 16 points and 7 rebounds in the win. Clemson shot just 33 percent from the floor in the ACC match-up.

Mike Conley Jr. scored 17 points and handed out 10 assists as the #7 Ohio State Buckeyes (15-3) crushed the North western Wildcats (10-8) 73-41. The Buckeyes built a 19-point lead by halftime and held the Wildcats to just 32 percent shooting from the floor.

Shan Foster scored 27 points to lead the Vanderbilt Commodores (12-6) to a 94-73 upset win over the #10 Alabama Crimson Tide (14-3). All five starters scored in double figures for the Commodores as they shot 58 percent on the night to grab the win. Vandy haeld a 17 point lead by half and Alabam could never overcome the deficit.

Tasmin Mitchell had 19 points and 10 rebounds and Glen Davis added 11 points and 8 rebounds as the #16 LSU Tigers (13-4) earned a 62-55 SEC win over the Ole Miss Rebels (12-6). Terry Martin scored 15 for the Tigers while Garrett Temple handed out 7 assists in the win. Dwayne Curtis led Mississippi with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Pete Campbell scored 17 points and Mike Green added 16 points and 10 rebounds as the #18 Butler Bulldogs (8-11) beat the Youngstown State Penguins (15-3) 67-39. Butler held a 42-18 advantage at the half and cruised to the win, limiting the Penguins to just 31 percent shooting on the night.

Scottie Reynolds scored 27 points to lead the Villanova Wildcats (12-5) to a 102-87 Big East upset victory over the #20 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (15-3). Curtis Sumpter added 21 points for the Cats and Dante Cunningham finished with 19 points and 9 rebounds in the win. Russell Carter led the Irish with 26 points.

The Auburn Tigers (12-7) used an 18-0 run to knock off the #22 Tennessee Volunteers (13-5) 83-80. The Tigers got 24 points from Frank Tolbert and 21 points from Quan Prowell to stage the SEC upset. Chris Lofton led the Vols with 22 points in the loss while Ramar Smith added 19 points.

After knocking off the number one team in the country the #23 Virginia Tech Hokies (13-5) were knocked off by the Florida State Seminoles (13-5) 82-73. Al Thornton scored 27 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Seminoles while Toney Douglas added 21 points to earn the win for FSU. Zabian Dowdell led the Hokies with 23 points.
