Final Twilight Film Makes $141 Million Opening Weekend

The Twilight Saga is going out big. Breaking Dawn Part 2, the fifth and final film in the series, raked in $141.3 million domestically over the weekend. The earnings land Breaking Dawn Part 2 eighth on the list of biggest domestic debuts. New Moon, the second film in the series, holds seventh place with $142.8 million, while Breaking Dawn Part 1 holds ninth place with $138.1 million.

The Batman franchise is the only other film series that holds multiple places on the top 10 biggest debuts. The Dark Knight Rises currently holds third place with $160.9 million and The Dark Knight takes fourth place with $158.4 million. The coveted no. 1 spot belongs to last year’s The Avengers.

Overseas, Breaking Dawn Part 2 earned a whopping $199. 6 million. The film’s worldwide earnings total $340.9 million. The Twilight series stars Robert Pattinson as Edward, Kristen Stewart as Bella and Taylor Lautner as Jacob.

Skyfall, the latest James Bond film starring Daniel Craig, took second place at the weekend box office with $41.5 million. Steven Spielberg's Lincoln landed in third place with $21 million. Wreck-it-Ralph and Flight rounded out the top five.
