In the company news yesterday,
Green Planet Bioengineering CO. LTD. yesterday announced the introduction of two natural extracts, Resveratrol and 5-HTP, which are expected to generate about $1.8 million in revenue for the company in the third quarter.
Green Planet has teamed with Fujian Traditional Chinese Medical College to create and execute a marketing campaign for Resveratrol and 5-HTP. The new health supplements have contributed $1 million in revenue since they were originally launched, and Green Planet said it has already secured long-term purchase agreements with two new customers.
“We are very excited to have launched our marketing efforts for these new extracts. Sales appear to show a raising trend, leading us to believe that these two new supplements will be highly profitable products with a promising future in the marketplace. We also anticipate expanding into more desirable and profitable green products,” CEO of Green Planet Min Zhao stated in the press release.
Various plant species produce Resveratrol as an antioxidant to protect themselves against environmental factors. For example, grapevines produce large amounts of Resveratrol to protect the grapes from fungal diseases and sun damage. Under recent medical studies, these powerful antioxidants have signaled the potential to fight certain cancers. In supplement form, Resveratrol has gained increased consumer awareness after being featured on several popular, syndicated TV shows.
According to the company, the 5-HTP supplement is clinically considered an alternative for Prozac, and clinical studies have shown the supplement to be effective in weight control, fibromyalgia and insomnia.
In August, Green Planet filed two new extraction process patents for the supplements: one process extracts and prepares high purity Resveratrol from Polygonum Cuspidatum (Application No.: 2009103064095) and the other process extracts and prepares high purity 5-HTP from Griffonia Seeds (Application No.: 2009103064080).
