Pittsburg Panthers’ Forward Zeigler Arrested for DUI, How Will the Team Deal With It?

Pittsburgh, PA- Pittsburgh Panthers forward Trey Zeigler was arrested for DUI early Sunday morning after ending his Thanksgiving weekend with game at Madison Square Garden.

Zeigler, who transferred from Michigan, was arrested after a cab driver spotted him asleep at the wheel at the intersection of Boulevard of the Allies and Craft Ave. just after 3 a.m. The observant cabbie called police who in turn asked for medical assistance. After he was roused and checked out for a medical problem, the responders informed police that he was healthy but most likely intoxicated, The Pittsburgh Post -Gazette reported.

Zeigler performed poorly on several DUI tests and his blood alcohol level was .129. He was arrested for DUI and later released to his family.

Zeigler has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated. As a result of his arrest, Zeigler has been suspended from the Panthers indefinitely.

Zeigler released a statement regarding his arrest. He said, “I want to apologize to my family, the University of Pittsburgh, my teammates and coaches and the entire Pittsburgh community. This is not indicative of the person I am, nor the kind of person I want to be.”

Zeigler, like so many athletes made a serious mistake when he decided to drive drunk; so far over a dozen college and pro-athletes have been busted for DUI this year.  A conviction for misdemeanor DUI may not seem like a big deal, but there are many negative ramifications to this charge, mainly the possibility of a short jail term and the loss of driving privileges.

Very few college students, or anyone for that matter, can afford losing their license or the fines an intoxicated driving charge entails. Defeating an intoxicated driving charge is only possible when the offender hires a well-practiced DUI attorney to defend them in court or negotiate for a plea.
