Dow Chemical (NYSE: DOW) to Shutdown Production Units

The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW) has announced the closing of their styrene monomer and ethylbenzyne production units at its operation site in Freeport, Texas by the end of the year. This is part of the companies restructuring plan which they had announced in June 2009.

Part of the plans goal is to reduce Dow’s manufacturing footprint. As part of the restructuring plan Dow also intends to integrate ethylene production with internal demand. Dow purchases approximately three billion pounds of ethylene from the merchant market annually. They plan to Eliminate all purchases of ethylene through the merchant market.
