#2 Texas Longhorns will take on the Wyoming Cowboys at home on Saturday after moving up a spot on the AP Top 25 college football rankings.
The Longhorns took the place of archrival Oklahoma Sooners after OU lost to BYU last week, 14-13, in the first college game held at the new Dallas Cowboys stadium. The Sooners, who lost Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford to an AC joint injury, dropped to #13.
Last week in the season opener, UT rolled through Louisiana-Monroe, 59-20, as they build from last year’s momentum. Heisman finalist Colt McCoy completed 21 of 29 passes for 317 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, Jordan Shipley caught eight passes for a career-high 180 yards and a TD, and freshman tailback D.J. Monroe returned a kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown the first time he touched the ball.
Last season, Texas went 12-1, defeating Ohio St. in the Fiesta Bowl and finished #4 in the final AP poll. However, they lost out on a trip to the Big 12 title game on a tiebreaker despite defeating eventual conference champ Oklahoma during the season.
This year, they look to rewrite last year’s history, especially with the recent turn-of-events at OU.
