Detroit, MI- Detroit Red Wings rising star Riley Sheahan is in serious trouble following his October arrest for intoxicated driving. Not only is the hockey player facing “super DUI”charges, he could also be deported back to Canada, his native country.
Details about Sheahan’s arrest on October 29th have just begun to emerge after MLive.com obtained a copy of the original Grand Rapids police report.
When police pulled Sheahan over, the 20 year-old was wearing a purple Teletubbies costume, and handed the officers a false ID. Sheahan had borrowed the driver’s license of teammate Brendan Smith, 23, so he could drink in bars.
Giving police a false ID is a deportable offense, but that isn’t his only worry. A blood alcohol test revealed that Sheahan’s BAC was .30, well over the legal limit of .08, earning him the charge of “super drunk,” which could result in 18 months behind bars.
Sheahan was also arrested for public drunkenness and minor consumption of alcohol in 2010.
MLive.com also reported that Sheahan pleaded not guilty to the charges in Nov. 6th court date. His next court date is scheduled for December 13.
The penalties for a DWI or “super drunk” are much more severe than a misdemeanor drunk driving charge. Anyone who hopes to have their charges reduced or receive a lenient sentence cannot accomplish this without the assistance of DUI lawyer. An experienced DUI litigator will make avoiding conviction their top priority, but they will also explore options such as a plea bargain.
