Tellman Knudson, a Vermont-native running barefoot from New York to Los Angeles to raise $100,000,000 for homeless youth, was making his way through town when he and his two bicycle-riding crew members missed a turn. One of the crew members found a police officer nearby and asked for directions. Within minutes, four other officers were on the scene, offering to escort Knudson through the traffic-heavy portion of town.
"When I saw Dean [the crew member] talking to a cop, my immediate reaction was 'uh ohhhh'," said Knudson from his hotel room in Newark. "But by the time the second cruiser showed up, I realized they were on our side. We were getting a police escort! Lights, sirens, the whole deal."
A police truck went ahead and stopped traffic at the corner of Broadway and Van Houten Ave., where Knudson completed his 15-mile run for the day.
"Plus, just before the police showed up, a stranger on the street donated six bucks in cash to RunTellmanRun. Passaic rules!," exclaimed Knudson.

He began his 3,200-mile journey in Battery Park, New York on September 9 and heads west, running the equivalent of one marathon a day. The route follows historic Route 66 for much of the way, with stops in Cleveland, Chicago, St. Louis, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Phoenix and finishing on the pier in Santa Monica, California.
About Teenage Homelessness:
Over two million youth (between the ages of 12 and 24) will experience at least one episode of homelessness each year and over 100,000 youth sleep on the street for 6 months or more in America. The vast majority of homeless, street-dependent youth will experience amplified risk of exposure to physical assault, rape, sexual exploitation, recruitment into gangs, and deepening mental health illnesses. Tellman Knudson has set a goal of raising $100 million dollars to help create the programs to reduce the risk these youth face on a daily basis, help get them off the streets, and rebuild their lives.
