Israeli President Shimon Peres collapsed during a conference in Tel Aviv on Saturday and briefly lost consciousness.
Peres, 86, had been standing at a lectern when he began to feel dizzy and then collapsed. He was taken to Tel Hashomer hospital after being treated by medics and he is expected to remain overnight while doctors observe his condition.
According to the president’s personal doctor Rafi Valdan the heat could have played a role in the incident. Valdan said, “It was simply very hot and he stood up for a long time and felt dizzy. He fainted for a few seconds.”
Peres is said to be feeling better and expects to be back at work on Sunday.
Peres was appointed to a seven-year term as president in 2007.
