Colt McCoy was 30/47 passing for 337 yards and three touchdowns while adding 44 yards on the ground and a TD, James Kirkendoll had 102 yards receiving and a touchdown and Dan Buckner added 86 yards receiving and a score as the #2 Texas Longhorns (2-0) shook off a slow start and knocked off the Wyoming Cowboys (1-1) 41-10 on Saturday.
The Longhorns offense struggled throughout the first quarter as they could manage just one field goal from Hunter Lawrence but Wyoming’s offense was no better. The Cowboys managed to even the score at 3-3 in the second quarter after an Austin McCoy field goal. Lawrence put the Longhorns back in front with a 32-yard field goal but Wyoming grabbed a 10-6 advantage when Ghaali Muhammad returned a blocked punt for a touchdown with 1:32 left in the half. It looked like Wyoming would head into the break with the lead but McCoy finally put Texas in the endzone when he found Kirkendoll on a 25-yard touchdown pass and the Longhorns were in front 13-10.
Texas started putting things together in the second half as McCoy extended their lead to 20-10 on a 9-yard touchdown run and then hit Buckner on a 33-yard TD strike to go in front 27-10. Tre' Newton scored the third touchdown of the third quarter for the Longhorns when he ran it in from 13-yards out and Texas had complete control at 34-10 heading into the fourth. McCoy added to the Longhorns lead midway through the final frame when he hit John Chiles on a 26-yard TD pass to finish off the scoring.
