Dozens Killed in Fire at Kazakhstan Hospital Facility for Drug Addicts

An early morning fire at a Kazakhstan hospital facility for drug addicts has killed at least 38 people and injured several more.

The fire took place at a hospital facility in Taldykorgan in the southeastern area of the country. Witnesses said the blaze spread quickly, trapping many staff and patients behind locked doors. Officials have said the building lacked a fire alarm system and many of the materials used in the construction of the facility may have led to the quick spread of the flames.

There has been no word on what caused the fire but Prime Minister Karim Masimov has already ordered an inquiry into the deadly blaze.
