Accident on Construction Site of Hong Kong’s International Commerce Centre Leaves Six Workers Dead

A platform gave way and fell 17 stories down a lift shaft at Hong Kong’s International Commerce Centre, killing all six men who had been working on the scaffold.

The six men had been on the platform when it gave way on the 27th floor and dropped them to the 10th. Three injured workers were initially recovered but later died at a hospital.

An investigation into what caused the platform to give way has been launched.

Construction on the 118-floor International Commerce Centre is expected to be completed in 2010 and when it’s finished it will be the world’s fourth tallest building, trailing only the Burj in Dubai, the Shanghai World Financial Centre and Taiwan's Taipei 101.
