NFL Week 1 Scores: Brett Favre, Adrian Peterson Shine in Minnesota Vikings Win Over Cleveland Browns

Brett Favre was 14/21 passing for 110 yards and a touchdown, Adrian Peterson collected 180 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 25 carries and the Minnesota Vikings defense sacked Cleveland Browns QB Brady Quinn four times in a convincing 34-20 victory on Sunday.

After both teams traded field goals in the first quarter it was Peterson who put the Vikings in front in the second as he pounded in a touchdown from a yard out to put Minnesota in front10-3. Phil Dawson cut the Browns deficit to 10-6 when he connected from 20-yards out and then Cleveland grabbed the lead just before halftime when Joshua Cribbs took a punt 67 yards for a touchdown and a 13-10 lead at the break.

Minnesota’s offense began to click in the third quarter and it was Peterson once again who added that points as he finished a drive from a yard out and then Favre tossed his first touchdown in a Vikings uniform, a 6-yarder to Percy Harvin, and the lead was extended to 24-13.

Ryan Longwell added his second field goal of the game, a 37-yard boot, midway through the fourth and then Peterson sealed the game with a 64-yard burst for his third touchdown as the Vikings led 34-13. Quinn finally led the Browns offense into the endzone when he hit Robert Royal on a 26-yard toss but by that point the game had already been decided.
