Tony Romo was 16/27 passing for 353 yards and three touchdowns, Patrick Crayton had 135 yards receiving and a TD on four receptions and Marion Barber collected 79 yards on the ground including a score as the Dallas Cowboys opened their season with an impressive 34-21 road win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
Dallas got a pair of field goals from Nick Folk in the opening quarter to carry a 6-0 lead into the second but that was quickly erased by Cadillac Williams when he scored from a yard out to put the Bucs in front 7-6. It looked as if Tampa would carry that advantage into the break but Romo found Miles Austin on a 42-yard touchdown pass with 42 seconds left and it was Dallas that led at halftime 13-7.
Romo gave the Cowboys some breathing room early in the third quarter when he hit Roy Williams on a 66-yard touchdown strike and that 20-7 advantage carried into the fourth quarter. Tampa hung tough and Derrick Ward pulled the Bucs to within 20-14 when he scored from a yard out but Romo answered on the Cowboys next drive, hitting Crayton on an 80-yard bomb to move back in front 27-14. Dallas then put the game away when Barber scored on a 6-yard run with just under four minutes left.
Tampa QB Byron Leftwich managed to toss his first TD in a Bucs uniform when he found Kellen Winslow on a 2-yarder to get back to within 34-21 but by that point the game was already over.
