U.S. Open 2009 Semifinals Results: Roger Federer Advances to Sixth Straight Finals after Straight Set Win Over Novak Djokovic

Roger Federer has advanced to his sixth straight U.S. Open Finals and will be aiming for his 16th career Grand Slam singles title on Monday after beating Novak Djokovic in straight sets on Sunday 7-6 (7-3), 7-5, 7-5.

Federer will be fighting for his sixth U.S. Open title in large part because he came up with the big shots when he needed them most. The Swiss star won 78 percent of his first serves put in play and collected 49 winners while breaking Djokovic three times. The Serb played solid tennis but just couldn’t win the critical points as Federer refused to drop the match.

Federer recently captured his first title at the French Open, marking a career Grand Slam as he has won Wimbledon six times, the U.S. Open five times and the Australian Open three times.
