Gerard Depardieu Detained For Drunk Driving After Scooter Accident

Life of Pi actor Gerard Depardieu faces drunk driving charges in Paris following a single vehicle accident on Thursday. According to reports, the 63-year-old fell off his scooter while riding in the 17th district of the Right Bank. Responding officers gave him a sobriety test, which he reportedly failed with a blood alcohol level of 1.8 grams per liter. The blood alcohol limit for driving in France is 0.5.

Depardieu suffered a minor elbow injury in the accident. The French actor has not commented on his arrest. This is the second time he has been caught drunk driving – he had a blood alcohol level 5 times over the legal limit in a 1998 motorcycle crash.

Last year, Depardieu made headlines for urinating in the aisle of a City Jet plane. The flight from Paris to Dublin had not yet taken off when Depardieu asked a flight attendant if he could use the plane’s restroom. The flight attendant reportedly told him to wait until after takeoff. "And there and then he stood up and did it on the floor. We could see he had been drinking. The stewardess was dumbfounded,” a female passenger told a French radio station at the time.

Depardieu’s friend Edouard Baer blamed the incident on the actor’s prostate problems. "Gerard was upset at this and offered to clean up the mess. He has prostate problems and it was very worrying and humiliating for him,” Baer said. "He was also stone-cold sober at the time. This is not the way he usually behaves.”
