Florida Gators, Wisconsin Badgers, UCLA Bruins, North Carolina Tar Heels Get Wins but the Kansas Jayhawks fall for the third time.
The #1 ranked Florida Gators (17-2) built a 45-26 halftime lead and held on to beat the Ole Miss Rebels (12-7) 79-70. Joakim Noah finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Gators to the SEC victory.
The #2 Wisconsin Badgers (19-1) used a late 10-2 run to beat the Illinois Fighting Illini (14-7) 71-64. Kammron Taylor led the Badgers with 20 points while Alando Tucker added 17 points and 8 rebounds. Shaun Pruitt scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead Illinois.
Arron Afflalo scored 22 points to lead the #3 UCLA Bruins (17-1) past the #11 Arizona Wildcats (13-5) 73-69. Alfred Aboyo grabbed 11 rebounds for the Bruins who handed Arizona their third straight PAC-10.
Tyler Hansbrough scored 24 points and had 6 rebounds to lead the #4 North Carolina Tar Heels (17-2) past the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (13-5) 77-61. The Tar Heels shot 50 percent from beyond the three-point line while limiting the Jackets to 29 percent from the same distance.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders (14-5) took a big step towards punching their tournament ticket after beating the #5 Kansas Jayhawks (16-3) 69-64. Darryl Dora led the Red Raiders with 19 points in the upset. Kansas only attempted 4 free throws in the game compared to the 20 attempted by Texas Tech.
Greg Oden scored a career high 29 points in the #7 Ohio State Buckeyes (16-3) 82-63 blowout of the Iowa Hawkeyes (10-9). Oden added 10 rebounds to his line while Mike Conley Jr finished with 8 points and 10 assists.
Acie Law scored 16 points and Antanas Kavaliauskas added 14 points to lead the #8 Texas A&M Aggies (16-2) past the #12 Oklahoma State Cowboys (16-3) 67-49. The Aggies shot 48 percent from the field while limiting the Cowboys to just 33 percent. JamesOn Curry scored 20 points in Oklahoma State’s loss.
The #9 Oregon Ducks (18-1) overcame a 10 point halftime deficit to beat the California Golden Bears (12-7) 92-84. Aaron Brooks scored 22 points for the Ducks and Malik Hairston added 19 points in the win.
Ronald Steele hit the game winning jumper on an off balanced shot to give the #10 Alabama Crimson Tide (15-3) a 78-76 win over the Georgia Bulldogs (11-6). Alonzo Gee led the Crimson Tide with 21 points while Steele finished with 13 points.
Jacob Burtschi scored 23 points and grabbed 9 rebounds as the #13 Air Force Falcons (18-2) beat the San Diego State Aztecs (13-6) 56-51. The Falcons won despite shooting just 39 percent from the field.
Jon Scheyer scored 20 points to lead the #14 Duke Blue Devils (16-3) past the N.C. State Wolfpack (11-7) 79-56. Duke shot 52 percent from the floor while limiting their ACC rival to just 34 percent shooting. NC State committed 20 turnovers in the game.
Justin Hawkins scored 29 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the New Mexico State Aggies (15-4) shocked the #15 Nevada Wolf Pack (17-2) 80-73. The Wolf Pack were led by Ramon Sessions who scored 23 points and Nick Fazekas who finished with 21 points.
The Arkansas Razorbacks (13-6) shot 50 percent from the floor while limiting the #16 LSU Tigers (13-5) in a 72-52 pounding. Charles Thomas had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Razorbacks and Steven Hill scored 16 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in the win.
The #17 Memphis Tigers (15-3) shook off a tough East Carolina Pirates (5-12) squad to win 61-44. The score was tied at the half but the Tigers separated from the Pirates in the second. Joey Dorsey had 7 points and 15 rebounds for Memphis while Robert Dozier added 12 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
AJ Graves scored 28 points to lead the #18 Butler Bulldogs (17-2) past the Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix (10-9) 80-59. Butler never had a problem with the Phoenix as they established a 19 point halftime lead.
Cliff Hammonds scored 17 points and James Mays added 14 points as the #19 Clemson Tigers (18-2) beat the Boston College Eagles (13-5) 74-54. The Tigers forced the Eagles into 21 turnovers. Clemson connected on 50 percent of their three-point attempts while BC struggled at 16 percent from that distance.
The Villanova Wildcats (13-5) beat their second Top 25 team in a week after handling the #21 Texas Longhorns (13-5) 76-69. Scottie Reynolds scored 26 points for the Cats and Shane Clark added 11 points and 12 rebounds in the win. D.J. Augustin led the Longhorns with 25 points. Earlier this week Villanova knocked of Notre Dame.
The #22 Tennessee Volunteers (14-5) held off a late rally to beat the South Carolina Gamecocks (10-7) 64-61. JaJuan Smith scored 21 points and had 7 rebounds and Wayne Chism finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the Volunteers win.
Derrick Byars scored 23 points and grabbed 8 rebounds while Shan Foster finished with 16 points and 7 rebounds as the Vanderbilt Commodores (13-6) upset the #25 Kentucky Wildcats (15-4) 72-67.
