Pittsburgh shocked by Marquette, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech earn wins.
Rob Kurz scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the #20 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (16-3) beat the South Florida Bulls (10-10) 82-58 for their 14th straight home win. Notre Dame built a 16 point lead by halftime and were never in any trouble against the overmatched Bulls. Kentrell Gransberry led South Florida with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
The #23 Virginia Tech Hokies (14-5) got 19 points from Zabian Dowdell and Coleman Collins added 11 points and 14 rebounds to beat the Maryland Terrapins (15-5) 67-64 in overtime. D.J. Strawberry led the Terrapins with 16 points but as a team Maryland shot just 35 percent from the floor.
The #24 Marquette Golden Eagles (17-4) surprised the #6 Pittsburgh Panthers (17-3) 77-74 in overtime. Dominic James led the Golden Eagles with 23 points and 5 assists while Ousmane Barro finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds in the upset. Aaron Gray led the Panthers with 16 points and 9 rebounds in the loss.
