For the second straight week Sony Corp.’s “Stomp the Yard” edged out News Corp.’s “Night at the Museum” for top spot at the box office. “Stomp” pulled in $13.3 million in ticket sales while “Night” finished at $13 million.
“Night,” staring Ben Stiller, has pulled in an impressive $205.8 million since its opening in late December.
As for “Stomp,” its two-week run at the box office has brought in $41.6 million, a surprise to most.
Golden Globes darling “Dreamgirls” finished third at the box office with $8.7 million to take its total to $78.1 million is its mid-December release. The film won best musical or comedy at last week’s awards show and Jennifer Hudson and Eddie Murphy each took home an award for supporting roles.
Taking the fourth spot was new release “The Hitcher” which brought in a disappointing $8.2 million. The remake of the 1986 film enjoyed a wide release but a poor turnout.
Landing at number five after the weekend totals was “The Pursuit of Happyness” starring Will Smith. The Golden Globe nominated actor led his film to $6.7 million in sales. The movie has brought in $146.5 million since its release.
