The Chicago Bears will be without Brian Urlacher for the remainder of the 2009 NFL season after the linebacker had surgery to repair his dislocated right wrist, an injury he suffered in Sunday night’s loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Urlacher injured the wrist while making a tackle on Packers running back Ryan Grant in the game’s opening quarter. The ten-year vet remained in the game through the first half but left during the Packers opening drive of the third quarter.
Urlacher, a six-time Pro Bowl player, was expected to be a major piece to the Bears defensive unit in 2009. He had started 49 consecutive games and was considered one of the most durable linebackers in the NFL.
Chicago has already been in contact with Derrick Brooks, the 36-year-old free agent linebacker who played with the Tamp Bay Buccaneers last year.
