Frankie Muniz Feels Lucky To Be Alive After Mini Stroke

Frankie Muniz feels lucky to be alive for his 27th birthday. As the The Malcolm in the Middle star celebrates today, he is still trying to come to grips with the fact that he suffered a mini-stroke last week.

Speaking to Good Morning America earlier today, Muniz said his health scare is such a shock because he has always avoided things like drugs and alcohol. “I’m still trying to make sense of it. … I’ve literally, to this day, never had a sip of alcohol in my life, I’ve never had any drugs, I’ve never even had a cigarette. … But I’m happy that I’m alive,” he said.

Muniz was hospitalized in Arizona last Friday after he experienced numbness in his hands, dizziness, trouble speaking and vision loss. The actor and Kingsfoil drummer said he first noticed something was wrong when he lost vision in his right eye while driving his motorcycle in Phoenix. By the time he got back home where his fiancé Elycia Marie Turnbow was waiting, Muniz said he couldn’t speak properly.

“Something wasn’t right. I knew I did not feel right. I couldn’t say words and I thought I was saying them and my fiancée was looking at me like I was speaking a foreign language,” he revealed.

Doctors determined he had suffered a mini-stroke. Muniz was ordered to rest and try to reduce his stress level. He plans to join Kingsfoil for tour dates this weekend.

Muniz is perhaps best known for playing Malcolm on Malcolm in the Middle from 2000 to 2006. He put his acting career on hold in 2008 to concentrate on open wheel racing. Muniz most recently made guest appearances on Last Man Standing and Don’t Trust the ---- in Apartment 23.
