Jenni Rivera Killed In Plane Crash, Family Is “Devastated”

Talented Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera was killed early Sunday in a plane crash in northern Mexico. The Learjet carrying Rivera and six others went down 60 miles into a flight from Monterrey to Toluca sometime after 3:15 a.m. Plane wreckage was located in the Ejido La Colorada area of Nuevo Leon Sunday afternoon. As of Monday morning, search teams were still looking for Rivera’s remains.

"When we do find out what has happened with the body, because they have to get it out of the woods there. As soon as they get the bodies out and we receive the news that they're there, all the family is going to fly over there and bring our sister back," Rivera’s brother Pedro Rivera Jr. told reporters.

"We are feeling devastated. It's a devastation to the family,” he said.

Rivera, 43, was born in California to Mexican immigrants. She began recording in 1992 and released her first studio album, Homenaje A Las Grandes, in 2003. Known as "La Diva de la Banda" or The Diva of Banda Music, Rivera sold more than 15 million records over her career. Some of her most popular songs include "La Gran Senora" and "De Contrabando."   

Rivera’s work earned multiple Latin Grammy Award nominations. She won two Billboard Mexican Music Awards this year, including Female Artist of the Year and Banda Album of the Year for "Joyas prestadas: Banda." She was also named one of People En Español's 25 most powerful women.

The singer also started several companies and had several reality shows. Her companies include Divina Realty, Divina Cosmetics, Jenni Rivera Fragrance, Jenni Jeans, Divine Music and The Jenni Rivera Love Foundation. Her reality shows include "I Love Jenni,” "Jenni Rivera Presents: Chiquis and Raq-C” and “Chiquis 'n Control.”

In addition to her parents and siblings, Rivera is survived by her 5 children.
