Human Remains Removed From Site Of Jenni Rivera Plane Crash

Human remains were discovered Tuesday at the crash site of a plane carrying Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera and six others. Investigators say the remains were not identifiable and it is unclear if they belong to one person or multiple people. Public ministry spokesperson Priscila Rivas said the remains have been sent to Monterrey for DNA testing.

The wreckage of the Learjet was found in the Ejido La Colorada area of Nuevo Leon on Sunday afternoon just hours after the crash. The plane took off from Monterrery early Sunday, but lost contact with air traffic controllers at 3:15 a.m. about 60 miles into its trip to Toluca where Rivera was supposed to tape an episode of La Voz, Mexico’s version of The Voice. Two pilots were on board along with Rivera and her publicist, lawyer, hairdresser and makeup artist.

Rivera, who was known as “La Diva de la Banda" or The Diva of Banda Music, has sold more than 15 million records over the span of her career. Her work earned multiple Latin Grammy Award nominations and two 2013 Billboard Mexican Music Awards, including Female Artist of the Year and Banda Album of the Year for "Joyas prestadas: Banda." Some of her most popular songs include "La Gran Senora" and "De Contrabando."

The singer also appeared on several reality shows, like "I Love Jenni” and "Jenni Rivera Presents: Chiquis and Raq-C,” and started several companies, including Divina Cosmetics and Jenni Jeans. She was named one of People En Español's 25 most powerful women earlier this year.

Rivera leaves behind her parents and siblings, as well as 5 children and two grandchildren.
