Oregon Mall Shooting Suspect To Be Identified Today

Portland, Oregon authorities will soon release the identity of the masked gunman who opened fire on shoppers at Clackamas Town Center Tuesday afternoon. The sheriff’s department said the name of the gunman, as well as the names of the two people who died, will be announced at 1 p.m. ET.

Meanwhile, Oregon Health and Science University Hospital has reportedly identified the wounded victim as 15-year-old Kristina Shevchenko. Shevchenko is in serious condition. The exact nature of her wounds is unclear.

More than 10,000 shoppers were inside Clackamas Town Center when a man wearing a hockey mask began shooting an assault rifle. Witnesses say he jogged through Macy’s and screamed "I am the shooter.” As the gunman moved from store to store, some terrified shoppers ran for exits while others tried to hide under counters or behind clothing racks.

Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts said it does not appear the shooter had a target. He was simply firing at random. The gunman got off as many as 60 shots before he turned the gun on himself. He was found dead at the scene. “He was really trying to kill as many people as possible," Roberts told Good Morning America.

Responding Officers did not fire any shots. They cleared the 1.4 million-square-foot, 185-store mall room-by-room. Clackamas Town Center will remain closed Wednesday.
