On Heels of 12-12-12 Concert, New York Chef Paul Gerard Supports Hurricane Sandy Victims of Far Rockaway, Queens
by Alex Richards
Renown rock n’ roll chef, Paul Gerard, owner of Exchange Alley restaurant in the East Village, is joining New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu and Chef Frank Brigsten at an event in Far Rockaway, NY, to support victims of Hurricane Sandy. This area in Queens was particularly devastated by the strong winds and storm surge of Hurricane Sandy. The event is scheduled for this Saturday, December 15th, at the Brian Piccolo Middle School 53 to serve native Louisiana fare and seafood to a crowd entertained by the Stooges Brass Band.
As someone who spent 15 years of his life in New Orleans, Paul Gerard is no stranger to the loss and reconstruction that is currently taking place in Far Rockaway. To show his support, he is volunteering his time to assist Chef Frank Brigsten in creating and serving their unique Jambalaya recipe to an expected 4000 people. Paul’s restaurant, the Exchange Alley, was recently featured in Time Out New York’s ‘Top 100 Things to Eat in NY’ for its Jambalaya Balls appetizer.
Born and raised in New York, Chef Paul Gerard is the only NY chef to be featured at the event. With a reputation as an East Village rock n’ roll chef, Paul takes his cue from the Ramones and will “hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach” to show his support for the Hurricane Sandy victims of Far Rockaway. Paul attributes his award winning Jambalaya to roots beginning at the quintessential K-Paul’s Lousiana Kitchen. Frank Brigsten also served as sous for Paul Prudhome, the chef responsible for K-Paul’s notoriety.
With strong ties to the “city that can’t forget”, Chef Paul Gerard and Chef Frank Brigsten are honored to to help support the Hurricane Sandy victims of Far Rockaway. Join them this Saturday, December 15th, at the Brian Piccolo Middle School 53 in Queens, New York.
