Tough night for top teams in action as Alabama, Notre Dame, and Indiana fall.
The Auburn Tigers (13-8) rolled all over the #12 Alabama Crimson Tide (15-4) in the second half to earn an 81-57 upset victory. Alabama was up by one at the break but Auburn outscored them 45-21 the rest of the way. Korvotney Barber scored 18 points for the Tigers while Quan Prowell added 14 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
Shooting just under 62 percent from the field the #16 Air Force Falcons (19-2) dismantled the TCU Horned Frogs (10-8) 72-39. Dan Nwaelele led the Falcons with 13 points while Matt McCraw added 11 points and 5 assists in the blowout. TCU shot just 32 percent from the field.
Lamont Hamilton scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the St. John’s Red Storm (12-8) past the #22 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (16-4) 71-68. Eugene Lawrence added 13 points and 7 assists in the Red Storm upset. Russell Carter led the Irish with 32 points.
Shaun Pruitt scored 10 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lift the Illinois Fighting Illini (15-7) past the #23 Indiana Hoosiers (14-5) 51-43. Warren Carter added 14 points and 6 rebounds for the Illini who won their first game of the year against a ranked opponent. DJ White led the Hoosiers with 12 points and 8 rebounds.
The #24 Virginia Tech Hokies (15-5) continued their impressive run in the ACC with a 92-85 win over the Miami Hurricanes (9-12). The Hokies improved to 5-1 in conference play as Zabian Dowdell scored 30 points and Deron Washington added 23 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
