Newtown, Connecticut residents will say their final goodbyes today to six more victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre. Funerals are scheduled for teacher Victoria Soto and students Charlotte Bacon, 6; Daniel Barden, 7; and Caroline Previdi, 6. Public visitations for principal Dawn Hochsprung and student Chase Kowalski are also scheduled today. Both families will gather later for private funerals and burials.
The first Sandy Hook victims to be laid to rest were Noah Pozner and Jack Pinto, both 6. Pozner and Pinto were buried on Monday. Yesterday, funerals and burials for James Mattioli and Jessica Rekos, also 6, were held.
Meanwhile, all Newtown schools except Sandy Hook Elementary resumed classes on Tuesday with police officers and counselors present. Sandy Hook students will return to school on January 2 at Chalk Hill Middle, an unused school in the neighboring town of Monroe.
Friday’s shooting at Sandy Hook was carried out by 20-year-old Adam Lanza. Lanza, who reportedly suffered from mental health issues, killed 20 students and 6 adults with an assault rifle before committing suicide at the scene. Investigators later found Lanza’s mother, Nancy Lanza, dead in her bed at home. She had been shot multiple times in the head.
