ABC News veteran Sam Donaldson is facing DUI charges in Delaware, authorities confirmed to People magazine on Wednesday. The arrest occurred on Saturday, December 1 in the coastal town of Lewes.
Police say Donaldson was originally pulled over for a traffic violation, but when the officer suspected he had been drinking, the 78-year-old was subjected to sobriety tests. He was taken into custody around 8 p.m. and later released to an adult. Donaldson’s arraignment is set for Friday.
Donaldson has not commented on his arrest. The journalist has worked with ABC news since 1967. He is perhaps best known for serving as the network’s White House correspondent from 1977 to 1989 and then again from 1998 to 1999. He also covered the war in Vietnam and the Watergate scandal. Donaldson later served as co-anchor of “This Week” and “PrimeTime Live.”
