College Football: #14 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Face #20 Miami Hurricanes in Key ACC Battle Thursday Night
The #14 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (2-0, 1-0) will be traveling to face the #20 Miami Hurricanes (1-0, 1-0) on Thursday night in a game that could shape how the ACC plays out for the remainder of the season.
For the Hurricanes the outcome of the game will be determined by how well their defense plays against the run. Georgia Tech features the nation’s fourth best rushing attack, averaging 318 yards per game. That running game is led by quarterback Josh Nebitt who averages 92 yards a game while Jonathan Dwyer is close behind at 80.5 and Anthony Allen has averaged an impressive 74 yards a game on just eight carries.
While Miami’s run defense ranks 51st in the country, allowing 110 yards per game, when they face Georgia Tech on Thursday they know what they’ll be facing. Tech’s passing offense ranks 108th in the country and Nesbitt has failed to show he can hit receivers with any consistency. That should help the Hurricanes who will know what’s coming, it’ll just be a matter of whether they can stop it or not.
Led by sophomore quarterback Jacory Harris, the Hurricanes are currently ranked 5th in passing offense. Harris picked apart the Florida State Seminoles on Sept. 7 as he threw for 386 yards and a pair of touchdowns. That passing attack could cause problems for Tech as they sit at 80th in the nation in passing defense. Tech’s rushing defense isn’t much better, currently ranked 53rd in the country, but Miami hasn’t shown any sign of establishing a running game yet.
Kickoff for the game is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
