Lisa Whelchel may not have won the million dollars on Survivor: Philippines, but her time on the show is proving to be very profitable anyway. The former Facts of Life actress says Survivor has helped re-launch her acting career. Since the show, Whelchel has received numerous offers from producers.
"I didn't really go into Survivor to restart my career. I loved the game, and I wanted to play it. That really was my sole reason. I wanted the adventure. I'm really thankful that there were people out there who liked how I played it. It's very flattering,” says Whelchel, who won $100,000 for being a fan favorite.
One offer Whelchel has accepted is serving as a guest co-host on Jeff Probst’s talk show next month. She says she would be open to hosting her own show or starring on a sitcom. "I'd host. I'd do a sitcom. Really, I've got a lot opportunities,” Whelchel says.
In addition to the $100,000 fan favorite prize, Whelchel earned $87,500 for tying in second place with Mike Scupin. She was also paid $10,000 for attending the live reunion show.
As for playing Survivor again, Whelchel says that will not be happening anytime soon. “It was so hard, and I loved being out there, but it's way too early to think about playing again. Playing Survivor is like childbirth: it's hard and painful, but ultimately rewarding,” she explains. “So who knows? But for now, let's see what else is out there for me!”
