Simon Cowell Happy With X Factor Tate Stevens

Simon Cowell’s girl group Fifth Harmony didn’t win The X Factor, but the entertainment mogul is still happy with the results. Cowell says 37-year-old Tate Stevens’ win proves that there is no age limit for successful entertainers.

"We set out to do this show and take away as many rules as possible, partly to prove the point that you can sell records and be popular beyond the age of 29," Cowell explained. "At my record label we don't have a sign on the door saying, 'If you're over 30 you can't sign here.’ We don't run the business that way. This proves that there is a market for older people. I mean, look at Susan Boyle. I sold 30 million albums with Susan. So there's a market out there."

Stevens, who was mentored by L.A. Reid, told People magazine that Cowell’s support is important to him. "[At the wrap party] Simon said some nice things which means a lot; he's the boss – and he seems to have a lot of confidence and in me going forward in my career,” he said.

The country singer scored the $5 million recording contract over Fifth Harmony and Britney Spears’ contestant, Carly Rose Sonenclar. Sonenclar took second place and Fifth Harmony took third.

"First and foremost I got to thank the man upstairs for taking care of me, my family, all the country music fans – God bless you. Thank you so much for all the votes. This is the best day of my life,” Stevens said after the results were revealed on Thursday’s finale.

Reid praised his Stevens’ work. "You deserve this. I'm proud to work with you. I think you represent The X Factor really, really well. So on behalf of Simon and myself and all the judges, congratulations,” said Reid.
