(Pompano Beach, FL September 2009) If you’re like most parents who send their kids to school with packed lunches-- you might want to listen up. The Kellogg Company wants you to know that at least 1 out of 5 kids ends up either trading or throwing their lunches away!! Now, don’t get angry and start packing them sardine sandwiches! There’s an easier solution to tackle the traders, and get a grip on the garbage dumpers! Join The Balancing Act and The Kellogg Company as they get down with the A, B, C’s of lunch packing. Tune in September 23rd on the Lifetime Channel at 7am. (Eastern/Pacific)
The Balancing Act is excited to have Kellogg’s Nutrition Director, Cheryl Dolven to kick off the program by showing just how to pack a great tasting lunch for your kids! Dolven gives the breakdown of the A, B, C’s, “Let’s start with “A”-- Ask your child to help prepare, or plan their sack lunch. Next, “B”-- Bargain! Allow them to have at least one of their favorites in their lunch– if it’s higher in fat or calories simply surround it with fruits, vegetables, or even yogurt. Last, but not least “C”-- Cater! Remember that the lunch you’re making needs to be appealing to your child so that they’ll actually eat it!”
One thing that helps alleviate the little stresses from brown bagging it-- is to stock up on your kid’s favorites at a club warehouse store, like Sam’s Club!
So, parents-- it’s more than OK to pack a treat for your kid’s lunches. Just make sure it’s sensible, small, and planned into their school day! The Kellogg Company recommends treats like, Rice Krispy Treats, Cheez-Its or Zoo Crackers! These popular Kellogg snacks are sure to bring a smile to any child’s face!
