4 Killed, 3 Wounded In Pennsylvania Shooting

Authorities in central Pennsylvania say four people were killed and 3 state troopers were wounded Friday morning in a shooting in Frankstown Township. The gunman has been identified in the media as Jeffrey Lee Michael of Hollidaysburg.

Police sources say Michael first opened fire at Juniata Valley Gospel Church around 9 a.m. Shots were reportedly fired at other nearby locations before Michael attempted to flee the area in a truck. He encountered troopers on Juniata Valley Road and shot at them. After colliding with a trooper vehicle, Michael tried to flee on foot while shooting at authorities. Michael was killed when troopers returned fire.

No details on the shooting or Michael’s victims have been released. Police say two men and one woman died in the shooting.

The wounded troopers are expected to be fine. One trooper sustained cuts from shattered glass, while a second trooper was injured in the car accident. A third trooper was shot twice – one bullet struck his wrist and the other was stopped by his bullet proof vest.

The incident comes a week after a tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut left 20 students and 6 adults dead. The gunman, 20-year-old Adam Lanza, committed suicide at the scene. Police say he shot his mother to death at their home before driving to Sandy Hook. The motive for the shooting remains unclear.
