The Dallas Cowboys have hired their former back-up quarterback, Jason Garrett, as their new offensive coordinator. While Garrett officially has the title offensive coordinator, he is still in the running to replace Bill Parcells as the head coach. Parcells stepped down last week.
The Cowboys were forced to make a decision today on Garrett due to an agreement with the Miami Dolphins who had employed Garrett the past two seasons as their quarterbacks coach.
Cowboy’s owner Jim Jones was determined to have Garrett on the Dallas sideline for next season. Jones was apparently ready to add the former Cowboy QB to Parcells’ staff for next season. Now Garrett is in a position to land the head coaching spot vacated by Parcells.
Among the other potential candidates for the head coaching job are Wade Phillips, the defensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers, and Norv Turner, the offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers.
