College Football Scores: Washington Huskies Stun #3 USC Trojans with Late field Goal from Erik Folk
Jake Locker was 21/35 passing for 237 yards and added a rushing touchdown, Jermaine Kearse had 72 yards receiving including a pair of huge receptions late in the game and Erik Folk kicked three fields goals, the last being a 22-yard game-winner as the Washington Huskies (2-1) stunned the #3 USC Trojans (2-1) 16-13 on Saturday.
USC looked like the #3 team in the country on their opening drive as Joe McKnight capped the possession with a 7-yard touchdown run and an early 7-0 lead. That lead was pushed to 10-0 when Jordan Congdon kicked a 42-yard field goal and it looked as if the Trojans would cruise. That all changed when Locker scored on a 7-yard run up the middle with seconds left in the first quarter and the Huskies were back in the game.
With backup quarterback Aaron Corp making his first college start the Trojans offense looked out of sync and the Huskies capitalized as the defense put pressure on the sophomore and came up with big stops throughout the second quarter. Washington’s offense wasn’t much better but they put the only points of the frame on the board as Folk managed to tie the game at 10-10 when he was good from 28-yards out.
After a scoreless third quarter the Huskies grabbed their first lead of the game five minutes into the final frame when Folk kicked a 46-yard field goal. USC was able to tie the game with 4:07 left in the game when Congdon kicked a 25-yard field goal but the Trojans defense couldn’t stop Washington from moving the ball.
Locker made the Trojans pay on the Huskies final drive as he completed a huge 3rd and 15 to Kearse for 21 yards and then found Kearse on a 19-yarder with 33 seconds left that also drew a roughing the passer call, putting Washington down on the 8-yard-line and setting up the game-winning kick from Folk.
