Daniel Williams Arrested in Death of a Cheerleader

An 18-year-old man identified as Daniel Williams turned himself in to Florida authorities late Saturday for the shooting death of Bayshore High School cheerleader Jasmine Thompson.

Williams, who had been sought by police since the shooting on Friday, turned himself in at the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office around 10 p.m. He is charged with second degree murder.

Thompson, 17, was shot and killed around 11 p.m. Friday while riding in a car with three female friends. The shooting happened shortly after a conversation between Thompson and Williams. No other details were available.

Thompson was shot at least once in the upper body and once in the head. No one else was injured.
