Miss Geico and Aqua-mania ‘Shred it Out’ for the National Championship in Clearwater October 4th

At Clearwater’s 1st Annual Super Boat National Championship Festival October 4th, the battle between Miss Geico and Aqua-mania will be decided and will be broadcast on the CBS Sports Spectacular Television Series in the fall of 2009.

The Super Boats are coming to Clearwater at speeds of up to 200 mph and the Mac Daddies of the Turbine Extreme class, Miss Geico and Aqua-mania, will battle it out for the championship at Clearwater’s 1st Annual Super Boat National Championship Festival October 2-4th

The races will be broadcast on the CBS Sports Spectacular Television Series beginning in the fall of 2009.  Producer John Potts, of American Powerboat Television  stated last week, "This is the kind of extreme action that elevates recognition of the sport of offshore racing and builds audience base.  Covering the close battles between these two boats at  200+ mph will make for GREAT television..."

Currently Miss Geico trails Aqua-mania in the Super Boat International (SBI) national standings.  Since the SBI Nationals in Clearwater is a double-points race, Miss Geico has a good chance to win the national championship.   Aqua-Mania sits on the current national point’s lead of 2402 with Miss Geico at 1952.   One could eclipse the other…and within the Turbine powered Cat racing arena, anything is said to be possible.

The top three point’s leaders in the SBI Turbine Class are MYSTIC Powerboats and have been at the top of the inshore and offshore speed categories all year.   In SBI, MYSTIC Powerboats are untouchable in the top class: Turbine Extreme.

About Clearwater’s 1st Annual Super Boat National Championship Festival:

When Super Boat International (SBI) founder and 30-year veteran, John Carbonell, wanted to produce Clearwater’s 1st Annual Super Boat National Championship Festival two local area businessmen made it happen: Restaurateur Frank Chivas and Former Mayor of Clearwater Brian Aungst Sr.

Carbonell has been producing the World Championship Races in Key West every year for 3 decades as well as the races in Sarasota held every 4th of July.  Now Clearwater, the next “new great location” will have something Key West doesn’t have…the absence of cruise ships obstructing the race sight lines.  “It’s a great time of year to support the tourism industry,” says Aungst. “[SBI] needed another spot and Clearwater Beach is one of the prettiest beaches in the world.”

Clearwater’s 1st Annual Super Boat National Championship Festival will be produced by Super Boat International and presented by Brighthouse Networks.  To see the full list of sponsors, partners and sponsor hotels, visit http://www.clearwatersuperboat.com/
