NFL Week 2 Scores: Drew Brees Keeps New Orleans Saints Marching, Pick Off Philadelphia Eagles on the Road

Drew Brees finished 25/34 passing for 311 yards and three touchdowns, Marques Colston had eight receptions for 98 yards and a pair of TDs and the New Orleans Saints (2-0) defense forced four turnovers including three interceptions from Philadelphia Eagles (1-1) quarterback Kevin Kolb in a 48-22 win on Sunday.

Brees wasted little time getting the Saints on the board as he hit Colston on a 15-yard touchdown toss in the opening quarter. Kolb provided a quick answer for the Eagles as he hit DeSean Jackson on a 71-yard touchdown pass, the first of his NFL career, to even the score at 7-7. New Orleans managed to close the quarter with a 23-yard field goal from John Carney but that three-point lead wouldn’t last as Philly countered with a 23-yard field goal from David Akers with 2:38 left in the second quarter. That would be plenty of time for Brees to get the Saints back in the endzone as he hit Colston once again, this time on a 25-yard touchdown, and New Orleans grabbed a 17-10 advantage. Akers would pull the Eagles to within 17-13 when he hit a 32-yard field goal to close the half but that would be the last time Philly would be close.

New Orleans looked to knock out the Eagles in the third as Brees opened it with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Heath Evans and following a Philly turnover Mike Bell found the endzone on a 7-yard run and the Saints were in front 31-13. Carney would add his second field goal of the game in the third to push the advantage to 21-points before Kolb managed to toss his second TD, a 3-yarder to Jason Avant with 29 seconds left in the third quarter.

Reggie Bush put the game away for the Saints when he scored on a 19-yard run six minutes into the fourth quarter to extend the lead back to 21. Philly would get a safety for their final two points but New Orleans capped the scoring with a Darren Sharper 97-yard interception return for a touchdown with 55 seconds left on the clock.
