The tenth-seeded Fernando Gonzalez made short work of Tommy Haas, defeating the German in straight sets 6-1, 6-3, 6-1, to advance to the Australian Open finals where he will face Roger Federer.
The match wasn’t so much about Tommy Haas making errors; rather it was about Gonzalez not making any. The Chilean didn’t have a single unforced error in the first or third set and totaled just three for the match.
Gonzalez started off hot and never cooled down, winning the first 11 points in the first set and putting Haas in a hole early. It took just over an hour and a half the Chilean to earn his first Grand Slam final appearance.
Both Gonzalez and Federer are playing at the top of their game right now which should mean Sunday’s final could be a battle. Federer is fresh after demolishing Andy Roddick in the semis 6-4, 6-0, 6-2.
