Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Denies Claims Country Developing Nuclear Arms

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has denied accusations made by the West that his country is developing nuclear arms, declaring during a televised speech, “We fundamentally reject nuclear weapons and prohibit the production and the use of nuclear weapons.”

While Iran has asserted that their nuclear program is being developed for civilian purposes the United States has expressed extreme doubt over that claim, saying Iran was using the civilian program to cover-up their covert operation.

The U.S. recently opted to scrap a missile defense shield that would have protected American interests as well as allies from long-range ballistic missiles. Instead, the U.S. will concentrate on developing sea and land-based interceptors to protect against short and medium-range missiles, something Tehran is believed to be developing.

Iran will be called to task over their nuclear program when they attend international talks with China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom and the U.S. on October 1.
