Two-time Indy 500 winner Al Unser Jr. was arrested and is facing charges for driving under the influence as well as hit and run, failure to render aid in an accident and failure to report an accident.
The 44-year-old Unser Jr. was identified as the driver who sideswiped a vehicle on the Las Vegas Beltway around mid-day on Thursday. Police took the race car driver into custody after he failed several field sobriety tests.
No injuries were reported in the accident.
Unser Jr. underwent treatment for alcohol abuse in 2002 after a highly publicized incident in which his girlfriend claimed he hit her in the face. No charges were ever filed in the matter.
