Virtuosic Banjo Legend Bela Fleck is Teaming Up with the UGA Symphony Orchestra in March
Performing Concerto for Banjo and Orchestra, the UGA Symphony Orchestra will be treating Athens to a night of unparalleled performance by one of the most revered instrumentalists and composers of our time, Bela Fleck.
With a career that boasts multiple Grammys, collaborations with the world’s best musicians, and a reputation as the most progressive and creative banjoist of all time, Bela Fleck is one of the most profound figures in American music history. Since his early start as a bluegrass prodigy, Fleck has pushed the banjo into the realms of jazz, world music, and most recently, classical orchestration.
Commissioned by the Nashville Symphony, Concerto for Banjo and Orchestra is Fleck’s most ambitious work to date, taking the better part of a year to complete. Featuring a special pre-concert lecture forty-five minutes prior to the performance, this is sure to be a very special evening of truly exceptional music in UGA’s Hodgson Concert Hall, conducted by Mark Cedel.
*Tuesday, March 26 @ 8:00 PM Tickets are $25, available through UGA’s PAC
