A paparazzo hoping to score a shot of Justin Bieber pulled over in his white Ferrari was killed Tuesday afternoon by an oncoming car. Police have confirmed the 29-year-old man’s death, but have not released his name.
According to reports, the man spotted the super star’s luxury car pulled over by California Highway Patrol officers on an Interstate 405 off-ramp shortly before 6 p.m. The photographer parked his own car across the street and walked over to take pictures. He was told by officers to return to his car to least twice before he attempted to re-cross the street. When he finally decided to leave, he was hit and killed by an oncoming car.
Bieber, 18, was not even at the scene. It is unclear who was driving his car. The singer released a statement about the accident. "While I was not present nor directly involved with this tragic accident, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim," he said. "Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves."
No other details were immediately available.
