Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has lost his son to an apparent drug overdose. The body of 32-year-old Scott Sterling was found in his Malibu home on New Year’s Day.
Police were called to make a welfare check on Sterling because he had not been seen by friends or family for at least two days. They discovered him dead around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Foul play is not suspected.
“Sheriff’s Homicide and Los Angeles County Coroner’s personnel at this time believe that Sterling died of an apparent drug overdose,” said Deputy Guillermina Saldaña.
A cause of death will be determined after autopsy and toxicology test results are received and reviewed by medical officials. No other details on Sterling’s death were immediately available.
Donald Sterling, 77, has not commented. The real estate mogul, who has an estimated net worth of $1.9 billion, bought the Clippers in 1981 for $12.5 million. The team is currently estimated to be worth more than $320 million.
