Carnegie Hall to Host Jazz Pioneer Wayne Shorter & Orpheus Chamber Orchestra on February 1st

Saxophone virtuoso Wayne Shorter is bringing his masterpiece suite, Prometheus Unbound, to Carnegie Hall with support from the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. This special performance begins with an overture from Beethoven, moves into an Ives symphony, then breaks into three movements by Shorter, with room for Shorter’s quartet to improvise throughout.

Shorter will be celebrating his eightieth birthday this year, and a career of over fifty years as one of the most profoundly influential and progressive musicians in the jazz idiom. With an unmistakable improvisational style and a composition repertoire that has covered straight ahead jazz, fusion, classical, and world music, Shorter is a living American music icon.

This performance of Wayne’s seminal work also falls on the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra’s fortieth year of performances. This will be a very special performance featuring the immense talents of one of the world’s premier chamber ensembles paired with some of the most talented players in the jazz realm. Don’t miss it!
