Speaking at a military parade marking the anniversary of the start of the Iraq-Iran war Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad issued a stern warning to countries thinking about attacking his country, threatening any such act would be met with a direct retaliation.
Just one day after Israel stated it had not ruled out a strike on Iran due to its nuclear program Ahmadinejad stated “No power will think of launching aggression against Iran. Today Iran is experienced and powerful.”
Ahmadinejad went on to say that Iran would “cut the hand of anyone” who launched a military campaign against the country.
On Wednesday Ahmadinejad will be in New York where he will be attending the UN General Assembly. He will likely feel pressure from several countries regarding Iran’s nuclear program. While Iran has said their program is peaceful there are many who have expressed the belief that the country is attempting to build nuclear weapons.
Ahmadinejad is expected to address Iran’s nuclear program when he meets with China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom and the U.S. on October 1.
