2013 is already turning out to be an exciting year for Star Wars director George Lucas. The 68-year-old confirmed Thursday he is engaged to his longtime girlfriend, DreamWorks animation chairman Mellody Hobson. No other details on the couple’s engagement were released.
Lucas, 68, and Hobson, 43, began dating in 2006 after meeting at a business conference. This will be her first marriage and Lucas’ second; the former Lucasfilm Ltd owner was previously married to film editor Marcia Lou Griffin. Lucas and Griffin were married from 1969 to 1983. They have an adopted daughter together. The Indian Jones creator adopted two more children by himself.
In other star engagement news, Real Housewives of Atlanta’s NeNe Leakes confirmed Thursday night she is set to wed her ex-husband Gregg Leakes. “Well, a little after midnight, I was asked this beautiful question: 'Will you marry me -- again?'” the 44-year-old revealed on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.
The couple ended their 13 year marriage in 2011. While serving as a guest host on The Talk late last year, NeNe said her appearance on Housewives played a part in their split. “I am not sure if Gregg was ready to see me as his wife out in the forefront, making my own money, doing my own thing. That was very difficult for him and I felt like Gregg wasn’t doing all the things that he should be doing as a husband, and I decided to divorce Gregg,” she explained.
