Former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress has begun a two-year prison sentence, immediately being taken into custody following his hearing on Tuesday.
Burress, who pled guilty to a firearms charge related to an incident last fall in which he accidentally shot himself in the leg at a nightclub, is expected to serve about 20 months with credit for good behavior.
The one-time NFL All Pro arrived at a New York courthouse on Tuesday morning for sentencing and shortly after apologizing to his family and fans he was handed a two-year term. He was then taken into custody and was scheduled to be moved to Rikers Island before being transferred to a medium-security prison.
