Company officials announced Monday that the export of Honda Civics built at the Greensburg factory began last week to Mexico, along with 22 South American and Caribbean nations and U.S. territories.

The factory opened in October 2008 and has produced more than 50,000 Civics.

Honda Manufacturing of Indiana vice president Rick Schostek says the export production demonstrates the company's commitment to the continued growth of the Greensburg factory.

Honda has about 950 workers on one shift at the plant and plans a second shift of 1,000 workers when the economy improves.
